My husband taught me this recipe years ago...his mom taught him and she got it from the back of the pasta bag many, many years ago. My only addition is the rosemary. It's a favorite of ours and I can say confidently, I know you'll love it!
  • 1 ham steak, diced (or ¼ lb pancetta or salt pork)
  • 5-6 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • ¼ t dried rosemary (or 1 t fresh rosemary, minced)
  • 2 cans cannellini beans
  • 1 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 5 cups water
  • salt, pepper, red pepper flakes to taste
  • ¾ lb ditalini pasta
  1. Sauté ham, garlic and onions in a pot until onions are translucent
  2. Add beans, tomatoes, water and spices
  3. Simmer for 20-30 minutes
  4. Cook pasta separately until al dente
  5. Combine before serving
  6. Top each bowl with parmiggiano and good olive oil if you have it
